In Little Falls, students have the opportunity to participate in the band program starting at School No. 3 in the 4th grade. In 4th grade, students prepare and learn all aspects of instrumental music including, proper playing technique, learning to read music, and preparing for their first concert that takes place in June. From there, the 4th-grade students embark on their musical journey at School No. 1 and have the opportunity to continue band with Mr. Davitt for four more years. The program at School No. 1 is designed to engage students in as many performance opportunities as possible. In congruence with performance, students are able to audition for leadership positions such as “Section Leader” and are provided opportunities to compose music, conduct the ensemble, help teach younger students, and play solos. While the students are engaged in an active and challenging environment, we work closely with Passaic Valley Regional High School to ensure that the students have a smooth transition from program to program. Students can participate in the PV Marching Band in 7th and 8th grade, and can also be nominated for Area Band. In Area Band, students will represent Little Falls and audition for an ensemble that includes over 30 schools from around Northern New Jersey. We also offer “Advanced Instrumental Music” which must be taken along with “Instrumental Band”. This course is available to 7th and 8th-grade students who are looking to move into a more intense regiment of music and performance. They will be challenged and presented with a higher level of repertoire. Conclusively, the program emphasizes music and the tremendous benefits that come with being a performer. All students are welcome to join at any grade level!
Best, Mr. Davitt
